The importance of religion in Chinese society is superbly depicted in the old Chinese saying, “Whenever the Chinese reside, there will be temples”. Taoism, one of China's most essential traditional cultures, has been playing this vital role of spiritual support for the Chinese community for the last 5,000 years. However, research shows a drop in the number of believers in this ancient religion in this modern society. The main reason for such an observation is that people can no longer grasp the true meaning of “Worshipping Heaven and Earth” and, thereby, cannot understand the Way of Tao.
Yu Xu Taoist Temple was originally Grand Master Tan Khoon Yong’s place of worship for his Ancestral Deities. The temple was founded by Mr Chen Bing Qin (Hong Yang Zhen Ren) and re-established by Grand Master Tan in 1984.
Since 1984, Yu Xu Taoist Temple has been putting in many efforts in promoting Taoism in the hope of assisting members of the public who need spiritual help. After 12 years of hard work, the Yu Xu Taoist Association was established in 1996 and was officially registered with the Singapore Registrar of Societies on 09th April 1996 to continue the important task of upholding the culture of Taoism and spreading the true message of this religion. With guidance from the late Reverend Min Zhi Ting, the Association was also successfully classified under the Quan Zhen Hua Shan Sect in 1997.
In the year 2009, the Yu Xu Taoist Temple was officially renamed Yu Xu Palace. With these achievements in place, the Yu Xu Taoist Association is now striving for their next goal: to have a well-facilitated centre for members of the Association.
As the saying goes, “Every stroke of light brings warmth”. Not only will the donations of devotees be able to help in the development of Taoism, but they will also bring blessings to future generations.
